What is the life expectancy of a man living with one kidney?
After a few bouts of severe back pain my husband was to the emergency room and told me I had kidney stones. After a CT scan, the doctor said that he also had 4-cm mass in his kidney and had to have that kidney. The other kidney is fine. He just had bariatric surgery 3 months ago and has lost 93 pounds so far. That until now had been on track with the exception of a few vitamin deficienties.
ALWAYS obtain a second opinion. Only may need to have a portion of the kidney. Make sure it is 100% necessary to have the entire kidney removed. He can live a full life with one kidney. You need to stay healthy to avoid diseases that affect the kidneys (ie, sugar). Good health to you and your husband!
